Ticketmaster is such a rip off

So the Red Hot Chili Peppers just went on sale this morning. In fact - just 12 minutes ago. We have been waiting for these for what seems like a lifetime, so I sat diligently at my computer this morning waiting for the clock to turn to 10am so I could throw down some mad cash.

And mad cash I did throw. I am happy I was able to get Chris and I good seats, but good Lord - I spent almost
$25 just in service fees. What gives Ticketmaster? I understand there should be a 'Convenience Charge', I mean, you do make it convenient as I don't have to put pants on or leave my house and that is easily worth $10 to me. But what is this 'Order Processing Fee'? And then you charge a 'Delivery Fee' to send me an email? Crap that adds up to a lot of money (see below).

RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS AND THE MARS VOLTA
Tickets US $51.75 x 2
Convenience Charge US $9.05 x 2

Delivery (ticketFast Delivery) US $2.50
Order Processing Fee US $3.55

Total Charges US $127.65

Well, I guess in the long run it doesn't matter because at least we get to go, right? And the concert happens to be on Chris' birthday so it makes it extra special for him. I just wish it was less expensive to go to concerts. We spend quite a bit of money to see several bands each year, but can't afford to go to all the ones we want (i.e. there are over 30 shows I want to see this year, but will only spend the money to go to five or six of them).

$52 per seat is a lot of money. Add in another $13 per ticket in fees and they are just too much for most people. Now, I am sure the Chili Peppers will sell out (if they haven't already in the five minutes it takes me to type this post), so they don't care, but I would love to see bands reduce their tickets rates and vendors stop adding fees on top of fees to allow more people to have access to the shows. I believe in making profits, but this seems like a rip off to me.

Bottom line is that it costs them NOTHING beyond the fee for programmers to develop the ticketing functionality site.

What Convience is it that allows them to charge 9$ per person ? It all comes down to MONOPOLY. If only there were other sites that sold Concert Tickets. I bet the Ticketmaster fees would disappear immediately !

My husband I were trying to purchase monster truck tickets for our family. Ticketmaster is the ONLY option for purchasing tickets. The tickets came to $54.00. The catch and the most sickening part is that after all the fees-our total came to just under $100.00. I refuse to pay them those fees. The person before me was completely accurate. It IS a monopoly. Something must be done.

Yes, the convenience charge is very useful. It's convenient for them to "bend you over". I don't know why the convenience charge isn't $999.50. There is nothing any of us would do except comply and pay it. They have the monopely, end of story. And that's how good business is done these days.

yes TM is a monopoly, but let me ask a question, What would happen if you lost those tix for the concert that you have been expecting to see? Do you think TM should replace them if you Lost them

Now and days everything is expensive, not just there charges, but lets get one main thing clear, the 50 dollars the ticket is worth, does not go TM instead that money goes to the performer and everyone else behind the performer, TM only make money out of there service charge and thats how, the people over phone, and internet get paid.

In my case $9 per ticket and $5.10 order processing fee. I was really a rip off. I was about to order the tickets but why give them the money (especially during this tough time). I'll just go down to the San Diego sport arena and buy the ticket myself.

The issue here is the level of effort for the supplier and options for the consumer.

The level of effort is the same regardless whether it is for one ticket or 10 tickets...so why charge a convenience fee per ticket.. Beyond me.

If there is a convenience charge, then there should also be an option to buy the ticket in person at the theater like the good old days, where you paid the actual face value of the ticket minus the charges.

Not sure why Congress has let TM get away with this for so long.

Well it's now August 2010 and the scumbags at Ticketmaster have not changed their monopolistic rip-off ways. The one way we can get the message through is to petition the artists. Boycott their venues if tickets are sold through Ticketmaster - especially Canadians where we are charged a "convenience fee" for inconvenient sale practices.

BOYCOTT ALL ARTISTS AND VENUES WHOSE TICKETS ARE SOLD THROUGH TICKETMASTER.

I'd spend thousands of dollars in order to see again a Red Hot Chili Peppers' concert because they're are idols of this musical genre.

We received a gift card from some friends for $150 and the card is damaged. I have been trying to contact ticketmaster by phone and am kept on hold forever. I tried to email them and they very conveniently make you choose set questions so I cannot get to them through email. Now I have to write them a letter and sent it UPS. It sucks. Do not buy gift cards from ticket masters. They will get your money and your friends won't get anything
